I will show you how to boost the level of the audio of phone conversations coming out of the earpiece speaker!

IF YOU OWN A MOTOROLA RAZR THIS IS A MUST READ AND MOD

In one of my previous post I stated that I was switching Cell providers and going with Cingular. Picked up the Razr phone. I am very happy with the phone except one important detail that I never bothered to ask the Cingular Representative. How is the level of the audio during phone conversations? I have only had the phone for about a week now. I have found that the audio is very poor compared to other phones that I have used. When I am driving, outdoors or in places where there is a good amount of noise I find myself having to firmly press the earpiece speaker against my ear so that I am able to hear the person speaking on the other end!
So after researching I have found that this is a common problem with the Razr phones and again, even with the volume at max it is still difficult to hear the person on the other end of the phone.
I was tempted to go back to Cingular and choose another phone due to poor hearing quality that the Razr offered. I spent a good amount of time reading forums and reading reviews for the Razr. All complained they could never hear anyone in noisy areas, even when they maxed out their volume. Well I have found that there is a really simple fix.

AND IT WORKS!

UPDATE: HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS!

Please note that changing the setup of your phone beyond the menus given to you by your provider will void your warranty, and you could end up with a very expensive paperweight. Usage of the information contained in the pages below is at your own risk.

What you will need:

· A USB Cable for your Motorola Vxxx Phone (no, you can’t do it through bluetooth)

· P2Kman, a program to upload and download seems and files to and from your Vxxx

· XVI32, a simple but powerful hex editor

2- Now go to http://www.motomodders.net, sign up/register (must do this), go to the download section (on top of your screen), look for and download p2kman, and install it. now restart your computer.

3- Plug the phone in with your data cable, and open up p2kman. when you open up p2kman, dont do anything, just relax. you will see that the drivers you need will start loading. all you have to do is press “next” and “ok”. a few of them will load, one after the other, so dont worry if you see the installation screen many times.

4- Now go to http://www.xlr8.us/hofo, download and install XVI32. DONE!!! then spend some time reading this excellent tutorial. it is very clear and easy to understand.

Launch P2K Phone File Manager and download “gain_table.bin” from the “/a” directory. Now open “gain_table.bin” in XVI32.   To adjust the earpiece gain, go to offset “0D” (in Adr. Hex, you’ll only see “D”).  The default value is “01″ and you can adjust the settings from “00″ to “08.”   “00″ is silent and “08″ is as loud as possible.   Just type the number directly into the offset’s two-digit box.   I changed my earpiece gain to “04″.   I highly recommend not setting this value above 4.   People have blown out their speakers by setting it higher.   Save the file, upload it to the phone and reset its attribute to “70004″ by entering “4″ in the “Attribute” box and then click on the file to highlight it and click “Change” then click “Restart phone”.
